Terms of Service

Laiden is a free dating and friendship app for verified university students. It is an independent project operated by Ulaş Ahmet Kıraç (“Laiden”, “we”, “us”). These Terms of Service form a binding agreement between you and us, and they cover both the Laiden app and the waitlist at getlaiden.com.

By joining the waitlist, creating an account, or using Laiden, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use Laiden. Your privacy is covered separately by our Privacy Policy.

Laiden is strictly for adults who are current students. You must be at least 18 years old and confirm this with your date of birth. Access is limited to people with a valid university or university-of-applied-sciences student email, verified when you sign up. One person may hold one account.

Laiden helps students meet each other for dating or friendship. We give you tools (profiles, a doodle, matching, messaging, and events), but the people you meet are other users, not us. You decide who to like, who to message, and whether to meet anyone in person.

Laiden is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Leiden University (Universiteit Leiden), Hogeschool Leiden, or any other institution. Student email domains are used only to confirm that you are a current student. We verify that an account holds a valid student email. We do not run identity or background checks, and we cannot guarantee that any other user is who they say they are.

You are responsible for what happens on your account. Keep your login details private, do not share your account, and tell us at support@getlaiden.com if you think someone else has accessed it. You must give accurate profile information and keep it up to date, and you may not impersonate anyone else.

Laiden only works if it stays safe and respectful. You agree to treat other people decently and to follow the rules below. Breaking them can lead to content being removed, your account being suspended, or a permanent ban, as set out in the “Suspension and termination” section below.

You own the content you add to Laiden: your photos, bio, doodle, messages, and profile details. To run the service, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, and share that content as needed to operate Laiden, for example by showing your profile to other users you might match with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we are required to keep by law or that other users may have already saved outside Laiden.

You are responsible for the content you post and confirm you have the right to share it. We may screen, moderate, or remove content that breaks these terms or the law.

We use automated moderation on photos and messages, trained moderators may also review content, and we review reports, to keep Laiden safe. Every profile can be reported or blocked from within the app, and you can report a specific message or photo. When you block someone, you stop appearing to each other.

If content is reported as illegal or against these terms, we review it and may remove it, limit its visibility, or act on the account behind it. If we remove your content or restrict your account, you can ask us to reconsider by emailing support@getlaiden.com, and a person will review your appeal. You can also report illegal content to us at that address at any time.

Any conversation, match, or meeting happens at your own discretion and risk. We do not vet users beyond the student-email check, we are not present when you meet, and we are not responsible for other users’ behaviour. Use common sense: meet in public first, tell a friend where you are going, and trust your instincts. Events are created by users, not by Laiden. The host is responsible for their event, and joining one is your own choice.

Laiden is free to use. There are no subscriptions, credits, or in-app purchases, and you will never be charged to use it.

Laiden may be supported by sponsorships or partnerships in the future, for example a sponsored event. This never costs you anything, and it never means we sell your personal data. If we ever add paid features for users, we will update these terms and make any charge clear before you pay.

Laiden, including the app, the website, the name, the wordmark, the logo, and the design, belongs to us. You may not copy, modify, resell, or reuse any part of it without our permission. The licence to use Laiden is personal to you and non-transferable.

Laiden is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do our best to keep it working and safe, but we do not promise that it will always be available, error-free, or that it will lead to any match, friendship, or relationship. We do not guarantee the identity, conduct, or intentions of other users. Nothing in these terms removes any rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived under Dutch law.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for the conduct of other users, or for anything outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, for gross negligence or intentional misconduct, or for anything else that cannot be limited under Dutch law. Because Laiden is free, our total liability to you is limited to the maximum extent the law allows.

We may suspend or permanently remove your account if you break these terms, put others at risk, or use Laiden unlawfully. Where it is reasonable to do so, we will tell you why.

You can leave at any time. Delete your account from Settings, then Delete account in the app, or follow the steps on our Account Deletion page.

We may update these terms as Laiden grows. If we make a material change, we will give you reasonable notice, by email or in the app, before it takes effect. If you keep using Laiden after a change, you accept the updated terms. If you do not agree, you can stop using Laiden and delete your account.

These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. If we cannot resolve a dispute together, it may be brought before the competent court in the Netherlands. As a consumer, you keep the protection of mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may also use the European Commission’s online dispute-resolution options where they apply.
